Nollywood stars who died in 2018 : In 2018, the Nigerian Movie Industry, Nollywood, lost a great number of talents, Nollywood stars who were good at what they mastered. Most of these stars were sick and needed money for their medical treatments but unfortunately couldn’t raise it before death came knocking. Others died unexpectedly without any sign of sickness.

- Nora Nkiruka Ugo
Nora Nkiruka Ugo who was known for her role in the movie, ‘Husbands of Lagos’ died in January 30, 2018. Her death was a big shock in the Nigerian Movie Industry.
The actress passed on in Lagos over the weekend, after a battle with an disclosed ailment. It was her friend and colleague, Ruth Kadiri, that confirmed her death on her social media handle, where she penned an emotional tribute to late actress.
Nora Nkiruka Ugo was popular for her roles in movies and TV series such as “Hawkers Vs Hawkers,” “Diary of a Confused Teenager,” Husbands of Lagos,” “Love and Age,” and “Warriors of Satan.”
- Uduak Akrah
The beautiful actress died on Saturday August 25, 2018 as a result of complications she suffered after slipping in the bathroom. Some of the movies the late actress featured in include, Emotional Crack and Bafana Bafana.
Before her death, she was ill from the injuries she sustained from the accident, (bathroom fall) and arrangements were being made to transfer the actress to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), before she gave up the ghost.
Uduak Akrah before her death dedicated her social media and YouTube pages to sharing motivational messages and skits. She was a graduate of Creative Arts from the University of Lagos. She started her acting career in the Nigerian movie industry, nollywood in 1999 and featured in a number of films, stage plays and TV series.
- Ademola Ariyo
Ademola Ariyo also features in this list of Nollywood stars who died in 2018. In the month of January, another Nollywood star and a top Cinematographer in the person of Ademola Ariyo also kicked the bucket.
Ariyo suffered kidney failure. The top movie maker was said to have been broke and begged for financial aid on the streets of Surulere as his health got worsened.
He was down with stage 5 kidney failure, and needed 12 million for a transplant, but unfortunately, the money wasn’t realized.
Ademola Ariyo was known to have shot blockbuster movies like Osuofia In London, Blood Money, Igodo among others.
- Moses Adejumo also known as Baba Sala
In the month of October, popular nollywood comic actor and dramatist, Moses Adejumo also known as Baba Sala died.
The legendry actor according to his media assistant, Mr. Isaac Hastrup died some minutes to 10 pm on Sunday night.
Before his death, Baba Sala was said to have gone to the church two Sundays before his death and was the one that said the benediction in the church.
However, his son, Emmanuel Adejumo, aka Boisala, disclosed that the veteran comedian died in his sleep after taking his supper.
According to Baba Sala’s son, his father, Moses Adejumo, ate his last meal around 6pm and took a rest for a while before he went to bed and died in his sleep.
Baba Sala was regarded as the father of modern Nigerian comedy, alongside other dramatists like Hubert Ogunde , Kola Ogunmola, Oyin Adejobi and Duro Ladipo who popularised theatre and television acting in Nigeria.
- Aisha Abimbola aka Omoge Campus
Famous Nollywood actress, Aisha Abimbola, popularly known as Omoge Campus is one of the numerous Nollywood stars who died in 2018. She died of breast cancer on May 16th, 2018, in Canada where she was undergoing treatment.
The 46- year-old actress was who during her lifetime had converted to Christianity was buried according to Islamic rites in Canadian.
Aisha Abimbola featured in indigenous and non-indigenous productions such as “No Pain, No Gain,” “Awerijaye,” “So Wrong So Right,” “Omoge Campus,” “Kamson and Neighbours” among others.
- Chukwudi Bambino Anachina
Chukwudi Bambino Anachina died in his sleep on Saturday, the 16th of June, 2018. Chris Ekejimbe, a member of the Board of Trustees of Association of Nollywood Core Producers (ANCOP) announced Bambino’s death after the late producer’s wife confirmed the sad news.
Bambino is not a stranger in the entertainment industry, where he had put in well over 25 years. He has featured in several Nigerian films and home video. Before his death, he was ‘The Missing God’ producer and had many movies credited to him.
- Motunrayo Adeoye
Nollywood actress from the Yoruba genre, Motunrayo Adeoye died in June, 2018, of chronic ulcer.
The actress who was a niece of the Alaafin of Oyo, Lamidi Adeyemi III featured in the following popular Nollywood movies, Agogo Ewo and Thunder Bolt.
Her hard-hitting role in Kunle Afod’s hit movie, Igbekun shot her into superstardom.
- Ezeora Nelson Oluchukwu aka Nelson Gold
Ezeora Nelson Oluchukwu popularly known as Nelson Gold, a graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka was in June 2018 reportedly slumped at a movie location in Enugu State.
According to reports, Gold was rushed to a hospital shortly after the incident occurred but slipped into a coma. The fast rising actor later passed away.
- Ignis Ekwe
Popular Nollywood Actor, Ignis Ekwe, well known for his role in the popular Soap Opera “Éveryday People” is among Nollywood stars who died in 2018. He died in July 2018.\
The actor reportedly died in Benin, after a brief illness. His death was announced by his niece Nollywood actress, Yvonne Jegede.
Until his death, the Edo-born actor was a scriptwriter, and a lecturer in the Department of Mass Communications, Auchi Polytechnic, in Edo State, Nigeria.
He played iconic roles in “Cockcrow at Dawn’’, “Igodo” and other epic movies.
- Ifeanyi Ikenga Gbulie
Veteran Nollywood Actor Ifeanyi Ikenga Gbulie sadly died in December 2018.
Mr Gbulie died in Enugu after a prolonged battle with stroke. He was bedridden for several months as a result of stroke.
- Chike Osuji
In August 2018, the death of Nollywood actor, Chike Osuji was reported. He died at the age of 65 and was survived by a wife and four children.
According to some of his collegues, the actor who was diagnosed of kidney ailment back in 2006 has battled so many other issues since he spent all he had on the disease.
Chike Osuji who hails from Umuokoro Awaka in Owerri North Local Government of Imo State in the following movies before his death: The book of Harragon’, ‘40 Days in the Wilderness’ and ‘The Governor’, among others.
- Fred Ezimadu aka Big Fredo
popular Nollywood actor, Fred Ezimadu popularly known as Big Fredo died in the Month of October, 2018.
Big Fredo died in Lagos after he complained of a toothache.
According to Emeka Rollas, who is the leader of Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), the deceased’s daughter who gave an account of his demise, revealed that the late actor, merely complained of tooth ache and was taken to the hospital where he gave up the ghost.
- Friday Ogbulo aka Babariga
Popular Nollywood Actor Babariga, whose real name is Friday Ogbulo, famous for the following movies, Adeichenu and Pastor Iduh died in September after a long battle with carbuncles.
Babariga ’s death was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer (PRO), of the movie industry, Otukpo chapter, Godwin Ochola, who extolled the late actor for growing the local industry.
- Ola Omonitan aka Ajimajasan
Ola Omonitan is among Nollywood stars who died in 2018. Ola Omonitan, a veteran Yoruba actor and one of the earliest Yoruba theatre artistes to popularise comedy died in October 2018, after a prolonged battle with a heart-related ailment.
According to his first child, Ajike, who confirmed her father’s death, Ola Omonitan had been admitted at the University College Hospital, Ibadan where it was discovered that he had been suffering from an enlarged heart, spinal cord problem and prostate cancer.
she further said that after successfully undergoing another prostrate cancer operation in 2013, he could not be operated upon again due to his age and frail stature.
Ola Omonitan will be remembered for his role in TV drama series, ‘Bata Wahala,’ which he plays the lead role
