Star actress Genevieve Nnaji : Nollywood Star and veteran actress Genevieve Nnaji on December 31st celebrated her 20 years in the Nigerian Movie Industry, Nollywood.
The Nollywood screen goddess while sharing a picture of her latest movie script, ‘Lion Heart’ wished her fans a happy new year and said the year 2018 marked her 20 years in the art of film making.
She wrote on her twitter handle @GenevieveNnaji1:
“As 2018 comes to an end, I mark 20 years in the art of film making. I am grateful for my life, journey, and growth thus far’’. “I am happy I could celebrate with you through a product that embodied all of me mentally and spiritually, for all of your pleasure. I love you guys! Happy New Year.”
Genevieve Nnaji who was considered the Nollywood Personality of the Year Award for 2018 by The Sun Newspaper began acting at the age of 19 in 1998 with the movie, ‘Most Wanted’.
Born on May 3, 1979 in Mbaise, Imo State, Nigeria, Genevieve grew up in Lagos where she also kick-started her career as an actress, singer and producer.
The 39-year-old Genevieve Nnaji won the Africa Movie Academy Award (AMAA) for Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2005, making her the first actress to win the award.She was also the first actress to bag the Best Actress award, by the Censors Board of Nigeria in 2003. In 2009, she was referred to as the Julia Roberts of Africa by Oprah Winfrey.
In 2015, Nnaji produced her first movie, ‘Road to Yesterday’, which won Best Movie Overall-West Africa at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
Genevieve Nnaji made history as the first Nigerian whose creative work was acquired by online streaming platform, Netflix with her directorial debut, ‘Lion Heart’,
Aside garnering several awards, the Nigerian government in 2011 conferred Genevieve Nnaji Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR), for her contribution to Nollywood.
